I use Riot for compressing thousands of greyscale images, both jpg and png which I upload to Wikimedia commons. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Ineuw#My_Contributions
With png I used 256 optimal colors, which compressed to a slightly smaller file than 256 monochrome greyscale. Now, with the latest version 0.5.2 you also added dithering monochrome, which I tried and found that it destroys the image. What settings would you recommend for greyscale jpg & png images?

use the greyscale options from both JPG and PNG. Dithered monochrome is to convert to 1 bit image, only black and white, not grey shades.

I'm using it during one week. It is really a helpful guide to me.
